Heartstopper
***** 5 out of 5 stars.
Boy meets boy.
Heartstopper is a series of graphic novels by Alice Oseman about the teenage love between Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson. It’s a quick and enjoyable read, full of warmth and emotions. It seems impossible not to love those boys.
The series allows us to watch the boys’ feelings develop, from friendship through insecurity to a beautiful relationship. As a gay romance, it presents different opinions and reactions to homosexuality, as the characters have to struggle with some negativity. The simple form of a comic does not stop Oseman from touching on some complex subjects, like bulling, anxiety, homophobia, sexuality, finding one’s identity, eating disorders and mental health.
I would recommend Heartstopper to everyone looking for a light, sweet and romantic read and those who seek a more serious position that presents teenagers’ problems.
I adore Heartstopper! I’ve only read the first 3 volumes, and at this point I’m waiting for the series to finish to catch up and read through the entire series!
