Ark by Veronica Roth
⭐⭐ 2 out of 5 stars
Ark by Veronica Roth is a short piece of science-fiction, written as part of Amazon’s ‘Forward’ series. It tells a tale of dying Earth and a group of scientists who attempt to save and catalogue as many plants as possible. Some are destined to travel to a new human colony; others will perish in the imminent asteroid crash. Samantha, the main character, divides her time between work and helping a recluse take care of his rare flowers.
Roth’s story is short and beautiful. It is relatively slow and melancholic, as a plot about the inevitable death of a planet should be, but it is still interesting. I was unfortunate to listen to it as an audiobook. The narrator speaks in a lethargic and monotonous way that made this story unbearable for me. I will probably try to read it one day, just to check if I would not enjoy it more in an e-book form.
