Can I Stray
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 out of 5 stars
Brooke is delighted when she is cast as Juliet in a local production of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Daydreaming about meeting her first boyfriend, she is initially awkward towards Matt, the boy who plays Romeo. She overcomes the shyness thanks to Matt’s help, and they become friends. Soon, Brooke falls for Matt with all the intensity of first love. When their stage relationship gradually blends with daily life, she is overwhelmed by her dreams and emotions…
Can I Stray is an impressive debut, written in a beautiful style. The book is divided into acts and scenes, following Brooke and Matt from their theatre performance into their twenties as they reminisce about their relationship and its effect on their life. The book’s pace is a bit slow, but that allows the readers to understand what the characters are going through. It is a very emotional read and not a typical romance story.
